ABOUT US

a brief history of our church
Founded in 1878 as a young mens bible class, Providence has been an ever present figure in the local community.
When the foundations for the building were laid a bible was placed in the concrete as a symbol that the words and teachings of Jesus Christ would always be the spiritual and physical foundation for all that happened within the building.
For the past 147 years that has been the case and God willing it will remain until he returns.
'For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.' - 1 Corinthians 3:11

CHURCH VISION 2026
Our vision for 2026 will be mission.
See below for further details.
OUR statement of faith
At Providence Church we believe:
• The holy scriptures are without error and are our final authority on all matters of faith and practice. The original manuscripts were given to man by inspiration of God. God, who inspired His words in those original manuscripts, has taken upon Himself the responsibility to preserve them for every generation, and we have them available to us today in the Authorized (King James) Version of the Holy Bible which is the Bible we use.
• There is one God eternally existent as three persons, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. We believe the Godhead works together in perfect unity.
• God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, whether they be on the earth or within the larger universe, whether seen or unseen.
• The Lord Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, conceived of the Holy Ghost, born of a virgin, without sin living a perfect life on earth, died on a cross by crucifixion, buried, risen from the dead, and coming again to receive His church, then returning to establish His kingdom.
• Salvation cannot be earned by human works or merit. Salvation is given by God's grace through faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ alone, and is available to all who will call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
• The Holy Spirit indwells every born-again Christian at the point of salvation. That same Holy Spirit seals and keeps the Christian until the day of redemption.
• Water baptism is by full immersion. It plays no part in salvation or making one a member of the church.
• All men rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ will spend eternity in the conscious torment of a literal lake of fire, while those receiving the Lord Jesus Christ will spend eternity in the glorious presence of God
• God has ordained marriage to exist between one man and one woman in a single and exclusive union for life.

church vision 2026
Last year we focussed on evangelism and absolutely believe the Lord has blessed our efforts to reach others with the Gospel. We have been able to hand out many tracts to those attending Albion matches at The Hawthorns, challenged to hand out or place a tract every day in May and more recently we have seen the delivery of 12000 copies of John's gospel to homes in our district. The Lord has sent in folks in response to those efforts. We must continue to do the work of an evangelist as we go about our daily business.
Our vision for 2026 will be mission. There are faithful men and women all over the world who are working tirelessly to win souls for the Lord Jesus Christ, start new churches and preach the Gospel to 'the regions beyond'. Every local church should be mission focussed and Providence is no different. We have started by giving 5% of our total offering from last year to The Barnabus Fund for the work in Nigeria. We don't want to stop there.
Lets pray that the Lord will help us establish much stronger relationshops with missionaries and missioanry organisations so that we can support them in a number of ways. It would be fantastic if the Lord laid on the heart of some of our folk to be involved in missionary work and maybe one day we can even send out missionaries ourselves, supported by us here at Providence for the cause of Christ.
Please pray and ask the Lord to guide us as a church, also ask him what part you can play in this vision for the coming year.
William Carey, described as the father of modern missions, once said 'Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God'. Let that be our experience for 2026.
